BEHIND THE SCENES

INSPIRATION & CREATION PROCESS

Isabella’s journey with handmade silk scarves began in her childhood, surrounded by the artistry of her mother. Her mom, originally a nurse, started crafting silk scarves as a creative outlet when Isabella and her siblings were young. Isabella fondly recalls her mother working in the living room, using a technique she learned as a kid herself.
Wool has always been integral to Isabella’s family. They had two goats, and every summer, her uncles would come over to shear them. Isabella’s grandma and mom would then brush the wool, turning it into a cherished family hobby.

Isabella follows a meticulous and hand-crafted process to bring them to life:
The Base. The process begins with selecting the right type of silk, which serves as the foundation.
Adding Merino Wool. Next, Isabella arranges merino wool on the silk in the desired pattern. This combination of merino wool and silk is key to the texture and design of the scarf.
Setting Up. She places the silk and wool layers on bubble wrap. Then, she sprinkles the setup with soapy water, rolls it up with a towel and a plastic tube, and rolls it back and forth for about half an hour. This step is crucial for felting the materials together.
Dyeing. If a colored scarf is desired, Isabella boils the piece with dye from Hellerup, adding vibrant hues to the fabric.
Finishing. After dyeing, the scarf is hung to dry for about 20 minutes. If any beading is desired, Isabella adds those final touches.
